Q: Name on my iMac start up

When I turn my machine on I have a small circle in the middle with a image on and my wife name underneath.

My wife past away on the 8th Jan this year and I have managed to change her pic, but would like to change the name underneath to my own name

How is this done anyone ?

To prevent losing access to the account, very carefully read and make sure that you understand the following article's before changing the account name. Also note, that both article's highly suggest having a backup before changing a user name.
