Q: SURROUND SOUND MIXING USING FCPX? (anyone heard of this before)

Friends,

Weeks before I posted this question twice and no replies found yet.

Anyone got any idea to help me out?

Can you suggest me the best sound cards for surround mixing using FCPX?

Is 7.1 possible with FCPX?

Whats your suggestions on Appolo 8 (thunderbolt 2)?

Do you think it serves the purpose?

Is there any limitation mixing surround sound using FCPX compared to logic / protools in terms of quality?

I'm using Blackmagic Ultra Studio 4k to preview my video from FCPX.

If I use another sound card to monitor the sound will there be any latency?

Is there anyways to control the latency if it occurs?

I'm using a

Mac Pro (Late 2013)

3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5

64 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC

Lacie 8 Big Thunderbolt 2 24TB

Thanks in advance,

Sree

FCPX and LPX mix surround sound just fine.  FCPX does 5.1.

What card you use, well, that's a good question.  There are lots of options around.  Anything OS X compatible should be fine.  You'll use an USB audio I/O interface that does surround sound.

I think you'd get more specific answers in a Blackmagic forum on how to assess the various cards and their functionality with FCPX. If you get specific information, please share it with the rest of us. .

I  see no mention on Apple's FCPX marketing pages of any ability to address 7.1 natively but I did find this in the Help System:

    Change the channel configuration

The number of channel options you can configure depends upon how many channels are in your source clip or compound clip. You can configure channels in several formats, including:

    • Mono: Single channel. In a surround sound setup, you can assign a mono channel to any surround channel.
    • Stereo: Left and right channels.
    • 5.1 surround: Left, center, right, left surround, right surround, and low-frequency effects (subwoofer bass) channels.
    • 7.1 surround: Left, center, right, left surround, right surround, left back, right back, and low-frequency effects (subwoofer bass) channels.

If you configure more than six surround channels, Final Cut Pro automatically adjusts the channel mix down to 5.1 surround during playback.Important: Changing the channel configuration resets all adjustments and edits made to audio components (including applied effects, disabled ranges, keyframe adjustments, and custom names).

Apple only mentions 5.1 in the marketing pages:

    Surround mixing

Pick from a variety of stereo or surround presets to improve the sound of your mix. Presets include surround animations that let you instantly fly your 5.1 sound from front to back or side to side. You can also customize your mix using a graphic surround panning interface and easily add keyframes to adjust panning over time.
