Q: Very Skeptical

Hi. I just bought a macbook pro retina. I'm using it for 4 days now and to be honest I'm not impressed. I had a old i3 dell laptop for the last 3 year and I am very skeptical right now cause I found my mac not fast enough and also not smooth enough. And if this coming from a person that had a old Dell, you can imagine that's is not a good sing... I need your opinion about that. Do I need to go to an apple store to see if something wrong with my mac or is just how performs in general?

Thanks...

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

    Hey Carolyn.

Thanks a lot for your response. What I mean is that is not fast enough I think. When for example I try to open an app or the settings is taking some time and not pop up straight away. maybe that sounds silly but I never had a mac before so I don't know how they operate. You know hearing all these years about how good fast an amazing mac products are I decided to sped all these money and buy one. Maybe my expectations are too high I think.

Ok...  unless you already have multiple apps already open which can slow down the system, just opening one app at a time should only take a second.

How much RAM is installed on your Mac?

Click your Apple  top left in your screen.

From the drop down menu click About This Mac.

How much memory does it say?

    Should be 8GB's or 16GB's depending whether it's a 13" or 15" Mac.

    8GB's is more than sufficient.

Also, if you installed any third party software such as anti virus or Mac cleaning utilities, that can slow your Mac down as well. Neither are necessary.

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.

If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

Yes I have the Kaspersky anti virus . I use it for long time now. I didn't have problems with my dell while using it. I have 8GB ram and is the 13'' i5 mac pro retina.

No wonder. It's the Kaspersky anti virus software that causing your apps to load slow. It will slow the entire system down to a crawl.

    Uninstall instructions here >  http://support.kaspersky.com/us/11531

Third party anti virus software on a Mac is useless.

Your Mac comes with security built in >  About System Integrity Protection on your Mac - Apple Support

I realize you are used to using a Windows based computer that requires anti virus software but now you have a Mac. It's a totally different system.

Might want to take a moment and read the results of an Apple Support Communities Kaspersky search here.

If your Mac still runs slow after following the instructions to remove the Kaspersky software, the uninstaller may not have removed all the files so you would need to reformat (erase) and restore OS X using OS X Recovery.

The first time you open an application it may be a little slow opening as it sets up its preferences and caches. The second time you open it will be quicker.

The most common reason ex-windows users find their new Macs slow is because the first thing they do is install a load of useless and/or harmful third-party utilities that claim to 'optimise', 'clean', protect', etc. the computer. I don't know whether these are needed on Wndows machines, but on Macs they are neither necessary nor desirable.
