When making phone calls on my new iphone people sound very distant. I can hardly hear them. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

Remove the plastic film that the phone ships with from the front of the screen.

You may also have to turn up the volume using the buttons on the left side of the phone while on the call. That's the only time the buttons control phone call volume.
