Q: I was recently forced to refresh my W-10 PC.

After the refresh was complete, a list of apps that were removed was left on my desk top. A very Long list. And every Apple app in my PC was removed.  The Apple application support both 32 and 64 bit, the mobile device support, and all software Update ability is gone.  I need to say here, that before the PC refresh, I was having trouble syncing my iPhone 6S Plus (64GB with version 9.3.1 update) to iTunes on my PC.  After following a reference instruction from here, when I checked my device manager on my PC, there was a warning under portable devices and my iPhone. The instruction was to uninstall my iPhone and then reinstall it. Except I couldn't because when I went back to check, the associated USB controller was also gone. I want to make it clear, that I do NOT blame anyone here for what I chose to do.

So, while I am trying to figure out how to install my iPhone and necessary Apple devices back into the PC, I started having the dreaded BSOD crashes. First every few days, and when it started happening 2-3 times/day is when I decided I had to refresh my PC. I don't have the BSOD crashes now, but it looks like all applications that were not from Microsoft or absolutely must haves from Gateway (my PC) were all removed.

I know I have to go back to Microsoft about everything else, but I was hoping someone here may have some knowledge of the ill-fated W-10 operating system and how to get my iPhone back into it.

I know I'm asking a LOT, so thank you to anyone who can help me. I will be more than grateful.

Barb M.

Download the current iTunes installer and install it. See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates if you have any problems the installation. Depending on how you refreshed your PC you may well find that a reinstalled iTunes opens with your familiar library. If not see Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash or Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

    Hello Turingtest2

While I very much appreciate your reply, my question was not about reinstalling iTunes. I've already done that, and thought I wasn't sure at first, all my music was right there.  I am trying to see if anyone can help me install Apple applications and iPhone back into my W-10 PC.

And while I thank you for your help, I am not sure who marked your answer as THE correct answer when it was not at all.

As you've heard elsewhere, and barring unknown glitches in the forum software, only the original poster, you in this case, has the ability to mark a post as solved. It is easy enough to do by accident. I did it myself only a couple of weeks ago. As long as people are paying attention it shouldn't matter, otherwise you can repost as a fresh question.

If you've reinstalled iTunes then the components Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour and Apple Software Update should have been reinstalled too. It appears you are able to connect to your library and have the expected content in it so I can only assume that you're having trouble getting iTunes to communicate with your device, however this wasn't clear from the original post.

If your device isn't showing in iTunes try the following:

    1. Open Control Panel > Device Manager
    2. Plug in your device
    3. Locate Universal Serial Bus Controllers > Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.
It is also possible the device may show under Imaging Devices, Portable Devices or Other Devices or as an MTB USB Device.
    4. Right-click and select Update Driver Software...
    5. Click Browse my computer for driver software
    6. Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers or
                      C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
    7. Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
    8. Click Apple Mobile Device USB Driver
    9. Click Next, then Close and exit Device Manager

For step 3 above, open the device manager. Expand any of these sections that are listed.

    • Universal Serial Bus Controllers
    • Imaging Devices
    • Portable Devices
    • Other Devices

Connect the device. You should hear the telltale sound of Windows device connection and one section should gain a new entry. That should be your device. It may not be labelled correctly at this stage.

Or try If iTunes doesn‘t recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support

Failing that try a full tear down and rebuild of iTunes as set out in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

Or lastly try rolling back to the last build of iTunes that worked for you. See iTunes installers for download links. If you're rolling back from 12.3.3.17 to 12.3.2.35, for example, then you'll also need to roll back the database in the way described in Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash. The tip includes suggestions for reintroducing any recent purchases so at worst you lose a few playcounts and/or a recently created playlist.

    Hello Turingtest

First, please let me be clear that I was not trying to besmirch your reputation by asking why the original post was marked the correct answer.

As far as my iPhone, Apple apps and iTunes.......they are all back!  When I started the computer this morning, I got a pop up saying if I wanted to reinstall my iPhone to go ______>.  I did, and despite a couple of confusing moments, I got everything back.

So, good sir, I once again thank you for offering your help.  Help is always appreciated when I am flying by the seat of my pants!

    Great news.

Can I recommend you Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy so that should anything go wrong in future you'll know you have a secure copy of your library and other important data to fall back on?

    All the best.
