Q: MBP 8,1 SMC and EFI firmware don't match Apple list

Hello everyone,

I have a MacBook Pro 13", Early 2011, 8,1.

I changed the Hard Drive with a Samsung SSD 850 EVO, and installed OSX El Capitan Version 10.11.4 (15E65) with a clean install (format, then install).

After that, I noticed that my fans are working more than usual. So I checked SMC and EFI.

When I check the Hardware Overview, here's what I find:

  Model Identifier:    MacBookPro8,1

  Boot ROM Version:    MBP81.0047.B2C

  SMC Version (system):    1.68f99

But it seems my SMC and EFI firmware don't match Apple list/recommendation :

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011)    MacBookPro8,1    MBP81.0047.B2A (2015-001)     1.69f4 (SMC 1.7)

I found that information here:

About EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Mac computers - Apple Support

I'm trying to update but I got the following message: "This software is not supported on your system."

Does anyone already had the same issue about the fans or mismatch SMC/EFI?

Regards,

Mat

    Hi Le-Mat:

I have the exact same computer and exact same hard drive. Here are a couple screen prints.

The version both you and I have is a newer version. We have MBP81.0047.B2C instead of B2A.

<Edit> For your fans try the following:

Try reseting the PRAM: Reset the PRAM

And try reseting the SMC: Reset the SMC

Thanks for your quick reply Kim.

Mine is slightly different, but same model: i7, 2.7Ghz

Indeed, prior checking EFI and SMC firmware, I tried to reset SMC by using the press Shift-Control-Option method.

But it doesn't seem to be working, as I don't see the indicator light change on the MagSafe power adapter...

I will also try to reset PRAM. Hope that helps.

Will post results here and close post.

The article states "might change states"... it does not say that it definitely will.
