MacBook Pro Won't Install OS X

I wiped the drive in my 2007 MacBook Pro. Now, when I try to install the OS X dvd it doesn't start the installation. The optical drives spins up and then stops. I held down the option key and it brings up the option to startup disk from the OS X install dvd, but when I choose the option it just sits there like it's frozen. Any ideas?

The only disks that will allow you to install an OSX in your MBP are the original install disks that came with your MBP or EXACT copies of them (they are model specific) or the Snow Leopard retail disk that I mentioned earlier.

With the proper disk, there is no reason an external DVD drive should not be able to install an OSX. That will be less expensive than replacing the internal DVD drive.

Ciao.
