It can't charge non-Lightning devices, and if the cable gets damaged you have to replace the entire unit. Also, if you ever get an iPad, it will not charge as fast as a 2.4 A unit. I use this model:

MFi certification is important for the cable because there is a special chip in the Lightning connecter.
