Viewing images from flashdrive

Hello, I have a 28g iPad Pro (purchased 3 days ago). I work as an artist, and have thousands of reference images saved to a flash drive.

What I would ideally like to do is:

- view the library of files on the flashdrive

- copy and paste individual files into procreate, or be able to select and open individual files in procreate.

- I do NOT want to copy all files to iPad. Too much memory and I update folders on the thumb often via desktop.

- I do NOT need to save ONTO flashdrive. Only want to view/copy/open images.

Is this at all possible? An alternative option? This is my first iPad, so I am not familiar with workarounds for this type of action. Thank you for looking.
