Q: Cannot reset iPad without Apple ID password

I have an old iPad associated with a non existent email and lost password.  I have created a new apple id with a new email and password which I'd like to set up on my iPad.  I've tried to restore the iPad and it says it is still linked to that old email.  It seems impossible to get it to forget that old Apple ID.  How can I completely wipe that iPad and use my new Apple ID??

Frustrated.

    Hi Canozzie11,

I understand you are trying to restore your older iPad, but the Apple ID and password have changed.   My first question is, if your old Apple ID had purchases, etc associated with it, you could have just edited the older password with the new Apple ID information.    Since you just created a new Apple ID account, you may need to talk to our Apple ID account security team to see if that is still possible.  Otherwise, you will need to erase the old iPad completely and set it up as a new device if you want to use a different Apple ID.  I'll include information for you below to look into that.

Contact Apple for help with Apple ID account security

Manage your Apple ID account information

About your Apple ID email addresses

    Take care,

Hi Judysings and thanks for your reply.  There is absolutely no way to set up as a new device as it always stays associated with the old apple ID...So I contacted Apple and they confirmed that the only way to reset is to get them to reset my password for that old email.  This was a very lengthy process but Apple did a great job helping.  They finally sent me a reset password email.  I reset password for that old email, then was able to remove find my phone, delete the account and sign in as my new functioning apple ID email.

    Hi Canozzie11,

Thanks for the update.  I'm glad the folks on the Apple ID Account Security team were able to help you get this all straightened out.  Hopefully, it will be smooth sailing from here!
