Will a Apple Xserve post display with no hard drive?

Hello,

this may sound like a silly question but will a 2006 post a display without having a drive installed? I picked up a 2006 xserve with a mini dvi display, but it doesn't display, I ordered a new graphics card, but it hasn't come in yet. So it made me think, what if it doesn't display because it doesnt have the drivers to display? Or is it simply a bad graphics card.
