iPod incompatible with version of itunes

I just got an gen 8 iPod nano but when connecting to my iTunes I get the message that the iPod cannot be used because it requires a newer version of iTunes. My iTunes says I have the latest version of iTunes.

Deggie is right that the "8th generation" nano is the same as the 7th. However, the "new color" models from July 2015 ship with version 1.0.4 of the nano 7g software, which may not be recognized by older versions of iTunes. Your issue may be that iTunes is erroneously reporting that you have the latest version - this has been reported as an occasional problem since the release of iTunes 12.2 last June. The current version is 12.3.3 - if you are running an older version, you should download 12.3.3 from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.
