iPad Smart Cover rust

Hello everyone,

I noticed that there is rust on my iPad Pro 9.7" Smart Cover.

I know, it's just a little spot, but I'm still worried because it happened with my previous iPad's Smart Cover to (iPad 3).

My previous Smart Cover is not only damaged, my previous iPad was damaged to. So that's why I'm so worried about it.

I'd really like a solution for this, is there a way to prevent it from rusting?

Please, if you can answer this, let me know!

How long have you have your iPad and did you purchase extended, 2-year AppleCare+ for it?

If you have AppleCare+ for your iPad then you have to pay the $49 U.S.D. for a refurbished, replacement iPad.

It is stated right in the warranty statement

If it is out of warranty, it does not matter if it was a design defect. That's what warranties protect against, but only for s specified period of time. No extended warranty = no free repair/replacement.

Since it contains no iron, it cannot rust. Can't tell from your out-of-focus picture what that little smudge is. Have you tried to wipe it away with an appropriate cleaner? Which side of the cover is it on, the smooth or the fuzzy?

I have found the same problem. There seems to be an orange rust like substance on the magnetic strip of the keyboard. This has then scratched the side of my iPad as well. I phoned apple support today and they have booked me an appointment to have it looked at in store. It is not something that will wipe off and now the iPad is damaged I cant remove the mark from there either. I have attached pictures to see if we are having the same problem

I just take it out now every evening. But it seems that the rust got through the coatin, I manage to wipe the rust on the coating away, but I can't remaove that little spot.

I Took mine back to the Apple Store yesterday and they replaced my iPad and Smart Cover keyboard for it. They said it was a defect in the keyboard so replaced that and have me a new iPad as it damaged the old one.

im having the exact problem with mine and they are refusing to replace it without me paying the AppleCare fee!

no thats not correct... The service fee is for damage caused accidentally by the user. This is clearly because of a defect in the product design and not because of any damage the user could cause.
