QUESTION MARKS IN BOXES ON EBAY

Starting yesterday I began to see a whole new ebay webpage with question marks in boxes where the usual click buttons are. I also have trouble seeing photos and all the pages seem a lot "rougher" (not as slick as they used to be). Did I do something easy or is this another kind of problem?
Thanks Tim Trotter

Try Safari from another User Account. To set up another user account see this Apple article. Ignore step 7. You can use "fast user switching" by clicking on the log-in options selection in the System Preferences>Accounts panel. That makes it easy to go back and forth between user accounts.

Is the same problem evident there? If not, the problem is specific to your User Account. Otherwise, it is system-wide. Post back.

hey there,

starting today, my safari has been acting weird, too. I get a "Safari can’t find the server." more than a dozen times a day and, as you described, a lot of questionmarks. I have to reload the pages sometimes more than once to get everything going.
I'm not sure, but could these problems be related to the latest security-update?

thanks for any input

I tried the fixes that you mentioned with no change -- I still have boxes with "?" in them where all of the buttons should be. Interestingly, I happened to access an ebay webpage from Google (looking for an answer to this) and even the item listing on the Google search had blue boxes with questions marks in them where the forward/backward buttons are for the pictures. I can't help but think that I did something somehow, but I'll be darned if I know what.

I tried the 10.4.8 update and repaired disc permissions with no change. The rec from ebay was to use a different Browser -- Firefox or something, but it seems that I should be able to use Safari as I had for the past years. Any new ideas? I did forward it to Apple with the web page, but they haven't responded yet.
Thanks for all the help...Tim Trotter

Apple won't respond to your query. If you want a response you'll need to call Apple Care.

Something else you can try is cleaning the system cache files. There are a number of products that do this - I use OnyX. There is no charge for the software, but I believe the developer asks for a donation.

It's very easy to use. I run it twice a month. Once it is installed, you would double click on the OnyX icon in your application folder (or drag an icon to your dock for quick access) to open the application. After entering your administrator password, you would select "automation". The panel looks like this:

User uploaded file

Select the same items I have checked, except for "repair permissions" as you have already done this step. Also, select in the cache section "system and kernel" and then select "execute". The program takes about 5 to 10 minutes to run. Leave your computer alone, that is don't use it for anything else until OnyX is finished. Once complete, restart the computer and try Safari.
