Windows SoftwareOne question, I thought, the Mac would have an mini display port and you may need an adaptor from this.
Ok, it may not be a disadvantage to run a display, that can show 2560 x 1440 in the 1920 x 1080 mode. Everything is bigger. But?
Or does the adaptor allow the HDMI 4k mode, so the display can show it's maximum resolution?

Technically, it does.
Your 2 Thunderbolt ports can also be used as Mini-Displayport ports, the physical plug configurations are the same. In general, Displayports were designed to be used for computer monitors and HDMI was designed for use with HD TVs.
