Q: Original email gone as a standalone but shows in a thread

i received an email ( I was one of 5 addresses). Later two of the other folks the original was sent to, did what I assume was a reply all with comments.

 

now the original email no longer exists as a standalone email to me but I do see the original in the 'thread' of the last person that did a reply.

 

how does one preserve  that original as a standalone or is this normal procedure?

Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts and Calendars and turn Organize by thread OFF.
