Keynote slowness: Adjust Image

Encountering one mission-critical issue with Keynote (6.6.1; OS X 10.11.4; MacBook Pro 2.6 GHz.)

When editing images in Keynote, using Adjust Image, performance is extremely slow.

Selecting an image, the extreme slowness and lag is manifested when adjusting any of the following sliders in Adjust Image:

Exposure.

Contrast.

Saturation.

Highlights.

Shadows.

Sharpness.

De-noise.

Temperature.

Tint.

The lag is severe enough to greatly affect modulation and, even, my ability to set the attributes to specific values directly.

(Speaking of which, I'm also wondering why there is no numeric entry field for each attribute (as there are in Colors, for red, green and blue.)

Interestingly, the Opacity slider for images (or any objects) is perfectly lag-free. And Keynote (and every other app) runs decently fast on my Mac, other than this issue. Images were pasted using Photos, from the camera on my iPhone 5.

Any light shone on this much appreciated!

This is not normal behaviour for Keynote, none of our Macs show this across every model of Mac.

Try the following two procedures:

1 - Reset Keynote

Perform all the steps in the order listed

To uninstall Keynote, you must use an application removal tool for this procedure to work

Appcleaner is free and works well for this procedure, it can be download from here: Appcleaner

  • uninstall Keynote
  • empty the trash
  • shut Down the Mac (Apple menu > Shut Down)
  • wait 10 seconds, then press the power button
  • immediately after you hear the start up tone, hold down the Shift key
  • release the Shift key when you see the grey Apple screen, start up will take a few minutes longer than usual as the Mac is performing a software repair
  • after the repair and the Mac is fully booted, restart the Mac normally, (Apple > Restart)
  • install Keynote fromthe Mac App Store

2 - Download, install and run Etrecheck, then copy and paste the results in a reply to this discussion.

Etrecheck is a reporting script, it does not repair or alter your system, the website gives full information.

Okay - it's encouraging to learn that!

The first procedure seems to have slightly sped up the modulation of the Adjust Image sliders. But perhaps there is a bit of 'placebo effect'!

Etrecheck results:

(Note. Apologies for any newbie-ness I may exhibit, I recently converted from Windows. This is the only instance of slow Mac performance encountered.)

I don't see anything in the report that is cause for concern, you will see the generic performance indicator shows excellent.

I see you have AirDisplay software (as do I and have no issues) but sometimes it has adverse effects with certain applications, so try quitting Airdisplay try Keynote and see if it helps.

Did you upgrade to El Capitan or was it installed on the Mac when purchased.

Apr 25, 2016 9:53 AM in response to Gary Scotland

Yes true and I have felt my Mac runs quite fast 99% of the time.

I did notice something useful after closing AirDisplay -- Keynote is now faster, in one respect (just not with Image Editor.)

Keynote was previously taking a while to go to presentation mode -- when AirDisplay was on. About 2x faster now. (This will also boost my productivity a lot so, much appreciated!!)

I upgraded El Capitan after purchase (mid-2014 refurbished model.)

PS I also noticed, in Preview, the attributes in Adjust Color have perfectly fast, smooth modulation. I wonder why it's just Image Editor in Keynote that's slow!
