Q: Issue with mail client

I want to use my xyz@icloud account with Mail but I cannot since my appleid is xyz@gmail.com and Mail refuses to update my email address and leaves me with email address xyz@gmail.com which is obviously wrong (well it refuses to do anything and doesn't react neither to save not to cancel).
My primary appleid is xyz@gmail.com but when I bought Mac I set up iCloud account and got xyz@icloud.com alias. However Mail just doesn't get the updated information and I checked through browser that settings on server are correct.
Mail just gets the wrong setting and doesn't let me change it manually - its quite frustrating.

Apr 28, 2016 1:36 AMby wjef,Thanks very much! Actually I couldn't change my appleid to name.surname@icloud.com cause icloud.com or me.com are not allowed to become appleid (thats't the error I got on appleid.apple.com website).
However what helped was when I opened Mail client and wanted to add new icloud email account. The effect was that no new account was added but old one was repaired... it's totally confusing and unclear for me, but it works.
I have mixed feelings and to be honest though everything works it was my first disappointment with OS X system. Hope it was the last one

Apr 28, 2016 5:09 AMby Glenn Leblanc,In order to use apple email, you go to System Preferences and open the iCloud pane. You need to sign into iCloud there and enable Mail. The account will automatically be set up for you in the Mail application.
If problems occur, you sign out of iCloud to remove corrupt databases. Signing back into iCloud will replace your account and other services you are using.
