Q: WLAN expected for ipad deletion process (ipad 2 WLAN)

I want to delete my ipad 2 WLAN via icloud (to recover later) but the deletion process returns the message that it is pending until the ipad is connected via WLAN. It seems that WLAN is not active before login the ipad. But how can I delete then?

WLAN is usually the WiFi
Is your iPad connected to WiFi? It needs to be for the remote erase you are attempting
