Quicktime unable to open Windows Media file

When I attempt to open a Windows Media file on Quicktime, I get a message, " Quicktime unable to open file."

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), Mid 2012

Thats because QuickTime Player can't open Windows Media Player formats.

Use the free VLC player.
