Aperture cannot be opened while it is updating

I updated to OS 11.11.4 today and now when I try to boot Aperture 3.6 I receive a small window informing me that it cannot open since it is updating. I have no idea what to do what that. It is not running. Nothing other than FCPX is. Mac Pro mid 2010, 2 x 2.4 quad, 48 gb RAM, tons of storage.

I have closed the error windows, closed anything else running and still get the same notice when I try to open it. Have not restarted, yet.

Suggestions anyone? (Other than stop using it...)
