Apr 24, 2016 7:34 PM in response to redsoxdave04by J-Kuan,Plug the iPod in your computer, but this time don't start up iTunes (Or exit iTunes if it starts up). Go to Applications > Utilities and start up Disk Utility, select your iPod and then run the repair disk routine. I hope this helps.

Apr 24, 2016 8:05 PM in response to J-Kuanby redsoxdave04,i have two iPods - iy appears that it is only showing me the unattached ipode 128 gig, the classic 160 was renamed to the same generic
'iPod classic" even though the ID number is different for the iPod that is in distress. Apparently, if i follow your instructions, it will affect the smaller iPod that id working instead of the larger iPod that has a different ID than the one showing. (???)

Apr 25, 2016 1:11 AM in response to redsoxdave04by Kenichi Watanabe,The name of the iPod does not matter, in terms of identification by iTunes. It can be named as desired and renamed at will. Two iPods can have the same name, and iTunes will identify them properly.
If the iPod classic appears in iTunes, you may want to do a Restore on it. This erases the iPod, reinstalls its software, and sets it to default settings. If there is data corruption affecting the iPod, the Restore should resolve the problem as long as there is no hardware problem.
If you are not able to start or complete the Restore normally, try putting the iPod into Disk Mode first
Putting iPod into Disk Mode - Apple Support
Run iTunes and connect it to the Mac. If iTunes picks it up, it may prompt you to do a Restore. If you're OK with erasing the iPod, do the Restore. If the problem is not resolved after the Restore, or the Restore fails, there may be a hardware problem on the iPod, such as a faulty hard drive.
