Q: Can I set the time the lock screen remains on?

When I turn my iPhone (6S) on, the first thing I see is my lock screen.  It only stays on for a few seconds and then disappears.  If I am not fast enough swiping my finger to the right to get to my home screen, I have to re-activate my phone.  Is there any way I can set or adjust the amount of time the lock screen remains on?

I know how to set the auto-lock function which turns the iPhone off after a certain period of non-use.  This is different.  Adjusting the auto-lock has no effect on the amount of time the lock screen remains on.

How do I set the time for the lock screen to stay on?

Have you considered simply using Touch ID?  That way, it would not even matter if you could see your lock screen.  Simply push the home button and then touch your finger on the home button and your iPhone will unlock.

I don't want to do away with the lock screen.  Just the opposite - I want to be able to have it remain visible much LONGER than it now does.  How do I do that?

This has nothing to do with doing away with the lock screen.  The lock screen remains unchanged.  The only thing that changes is you can use your Touch ID to unlock it instead of typing a passcode.

If it does not stay on long enough when you first power on the phone, then tap the home or power button and the lock screen lights back up again and will allow you to swipe. If you tap one of the buttons like I said, the screen stays active for approximately 10 seconds. That should be ample time.

I don't use any passcode.  When I turn my phone on, I see the lock screen.  I swipe to the right, and I am then looking at my home screen with all the icons on it.  End of story.  Presently, when I turn the phone on, the lock screen only remains visible for 7 seconds.  I want it to remain visible for longer than that.  Is it possible to set the phone so that happens?  If so, how do you do that?

Please provide a yes or no answer - either it is possible or it isn't.  If it is possible, how do you do it?  That's all I need.  I am not interested in alternatives.  I hope I have provided enough base information here . . .

    Thanks!

Well, obviously, if you hit the Home button again, the lock screen will appear again.  I want the lock screen to stay on without having to do that.  And, by the way, the lock screen only stays on for 7 seconds, not 10.  But 7 or 10 - neither is anywhere near long enough for my purposes.  So, once again, can this be done?  Yup or Nope?

Yeah, I was afraid of that.  Oh well . . .

    Thanks again.

So, let me make sure I understand you correctly. You are saying when you first power the device on, the screen does not show long enough for you? And your corrective action for that is to power the phone off and back on again? Is that what you are referring to when you say, re-activate?

I tested mine three times, with a stopwatch before making the 10 second statement, and since one was 9.4 seconds, and the other was 9.6, I rounded up to 10, I'm sorry if that was not accurate enough for you.

To respond to your yup or nope, the answer would be Nope. You cannot increase the time the lock screen appears.

Right - when I first power the phone, the lock screen does not show long enough for me.  And, yes, my corrective action (i.e., reactivating the lock screen) is to hit the Home button again, which re-activates the lock screen.  (That's the only way you can get the lock screen back.)  I don't want to have to hit the Home button again.  I thought, if there was some way to increase the time the lock screen is in view, then I wouldn't have to keep hitting the Home button.

It looks like there isn't a way.

BTW - you guys are probably wondering why the heck would anyone want to increase the lock screen display time, anyway?  I'll tell you.  I recently installed a particularly great piece of wallpaper.  I was with a group of people and wanted to show it to them without having it obscured by all of the icons on my home screen.  As you know, the lock screen shows the wallpaper without any obstructions; the home screen does not.  The first person looked at it and passed it to the second person who (of course) said "where is it?"  (a non-smart phone person).

I guess, next time, I will just go into Settings/Wallpaper, hit the current selection and do it that way.

I did wonder why, and would not have guessed your reason.  Thanks for sharing it.

Yes, Settings > Wallpaper may make your goal a bit easier.  And you can suggest to the folks they handle your wallpaper as the iPhone gets passed.

Okay, so you do not power the device off/on, when you say re-activate, you are just tapping the home button again. See, there was more misunderstanding there. After reading your explanation, it does make sense, because it wasn't making any at first. What sberman provided should help.

Another option for your objective is to create another home page and place one icon on it only. Then you could see nearly all of the wallpaper with one small obstruction. Just a thought....

That's a pretty good suggestion.  As it is, I have four home pages.  The last (fourth) page only has a few icons on it and you can see almost all of the wallpaper on that page, unobstructed.
