Q: Locked out from iCloud & security questions that don't make sense

Hi

iCloud would not let me log in , it asks me for some security questions.

I never had problem up until now. Now it asks me  for a question like "who was you childhood best friend?"

I am 60 years old, how can i remember  50 years back. This is so lame. I am now locked out.

What was apple thinking.

Why can't the security questions make sense

Any advise?

Windows 7, icloud

    Hello jgoldb,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I understand you're unable to remember the security questions you set up for your Apple ID.  To help get these reset please follow through the steps in the link below.

If you forgot the answers to your Apple ID security questions

    Take care.

When you create your account you select the security questions, and provide the answers to them.

So if they don't make sense to you, be angry at yourself for choosing them.

Apple has nothing to do with what questions are set, it's all up to you.

That's so sad! I'm pretty close to 60 and can't imagine ever forgetting my childhood friends. Those are some wonderful memories. I'm sorry that you don't have something like that.

As Phil pointed out, you get to choose both the questions and the answers. But a good security trick is to choose answers that are unrelated to the questions, so someone who steals your identify won't be able to answer them. Of course, then you have to remember them, or better yet, print out the answers and save them (or write them down). For example:

    Q: Childhood best friend

    A: NY Yankees

The best solution, however, is to enable 2 factor authentication. Then you won't need the security questions anymore.
