Q: How to convert MBR to GPT to work around Windows bootcamp install error
Hi,
I have a problem as a previous post (Windows 8.1 install on iMac with fusion drive, GPT partition error):
"Hello,
I have been trying to install windows via bootcamp on my iMac and cannot seem to fix the 'Windows cannot be installed to this disc. The selected disc is of the GPT partition style' error.
I am successfully completing all steps until I am in the Windows install and select the partition on which Windows should be installed. I get the error 'Windows cannot be installed to this disc. The selected disc is of the GPT partition style.' I have formatted the partition, but I still get the same error."
Am trying to get this resolved ASAP. I have a MacBook Pro 8,2 (early 2011). El Capitan installed. I have already disabled SIP. Trying to install Windows 10, if possible, or 8.1 if not and then upgrade to 10. The target volume is disk0s4. I have been successfully able to create a Windows 10 USB install disk (even on my 2011 MBP), thanks to https://mihail.stoynov.com/2013/04/22/force-boot-camp-into-using-an-iso-image-of -windows-to-create-the-usb-flash-drive-for-mountain-lion-with-updated-boot-camp/
I've tried looking all over this forum and elsewhere to resolve my issue. I have come across user "Loner T"'s assistance and am hoping he can chime in for my case. Below is the output of the following commands in Terminal:
diskutil list
diskutil cs list
sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0
sudo fdisk /dev/disk0
Additionally, I've downloaded gDisk but I can't seem to be able to select any options. Will wait for instructions.
Many thanks in advance.
Best,
Gabriel
