I see that the display on your iPad isn't showing a proper screen. I suggest that you go through the steps below which will help you determine if there is a hardware issue.
If you see lines, missing sections, discoloration, or poor image quality
- Try to restart your device. If you can't restart, force restart your device.
- If this doesn't work, restore your device.
- If you still see the issue after you restore, contact Apple Support.
Get help with the screen on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Thanks for the reply Alex - have done all of that and still no success ... i can tell the system is operating as it should because the colours and placements correspond to the placement of the logo and intro sequences ...

Did you follow all of the steps I mentioned? Did the Apple Support advisor help you set up service for your iPad? If you didn't get in contact, then I strongly suggest you do.
I did, and I did, and was told it's probably just better to buy a new one because they don't do modular repairs to iPad.
