HDCP error when playing HD movie in iTunes through Thunderbolt dock

I connected my MacBook Air 2011 to a Belkin Thunderbolt 2 Express Dock HD. The dock is then connected with an HDMI cable to LG 27MT57D as a independent display. When I try to play an HD movie from iTunes which I purchased some time ago, I got the HDCP error message.

However, both the MacBook Air, Belkin dock and the LG monitor are capable of HDCP. I wonder if this is a issue of the Thunderbolt port of MacBook Air 2011?

Is there any board members having the same issue as me?

Hey,

I'm getting the same error message going from a Mac Mini to a DELL 3007WFP monitor using an Apple mini DisplayPort dual link DVI adapter.

The monitor is dual link HDCP certified and if I plug in a standard DVI cable from the mac mini it will play protected iTunes content at 1280x800. So I doubt it's the monitor or the Mac Mini but rather the mini Apple DisplayPort to dual link DVI adapter that is causing the problem.

Any solution?

Howdy Ricco,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

I understand you're getting an error about an unsupported HDCP display when trying to play iTunes movies. Given your configuration is going from your Mac, to a hub, to a TV, I suggest eliminating the middle man (hub) and try to see if it is why this error is occurring. The following Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters support HDCP: Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter and the Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter.

.Does the Apple Mini DisplayPort adapter support HDCP?

Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters that offer digital connections—such as the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter and the Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter—support HDCP content. Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters that offer analog connections—such as the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter—do not support HDCP content.
