Q: Importing FCPXML that contains a text generator, not respecting alignment

Hello, I apologize if this question is not in the right forum.

I am trying to use generators in FCPX to handle heavy amounts of text generation. The problem i am having is that when I export an FCPXML of a project and then import as a new project the alignment property of the text generator is not being respected and defaults to "left alignment"

Steps to reproduce.

1. Use a generator in an existing project by dragging in from Generators Browser

2. Add text (Alignment is correct "right" align)

3. Export FCPXML - sample code below. (looks good right?)

<video name="Web Backgrounds" offset="0s" ref="r2" duration="2402400/120000s" start="86486400/24000s">

                            <param name="Blue Background" key="9999/28069/100/28328/2/100" value="1"/>

                            <video name="KC Testing" lane="1" offset="86486400/24000s" ref="r3" duration="2402400/120000s" start="86486400/24000s">

                                <param name="Position" key="9999/1999674054/1999673404/1/100/101" value="742.7 348.3"/>

                                <param name="Alignment" key="9999/1999674054/1999673404/2/354/3000006850/401" value="2 (Right)"/>

                                <param name="Text" key="9999/1999674054/1999673404/2/369" value="This is a test of right alignment"/>

                            </video>

4. Import the FCPXML as a new project

5. When imported FCPX does not view the text from the generator as "Right" aligned it shows up in the project as "Left" aligned.(See Pics below)

This is hard because some of my text can get long and would prefer it not to go off screen on the right hand side.

Thank much for any help.

    1. File a bug. Choose Submit Feedback from the Final Cut Pro menu.

    2. Use your own Motion template for your text. Set the right-justification in the Motion Template. This justification will survive the XML round-trip.

    @Tom,

    This is the standard text layer inside Motion that eventually is published as a motion template to be used inside FCPX.

    @Wes,

    Thank you for your response

    That is part of the problem,  I am setting the justification inside the template and it works if used inside FCPX. However it looses the justification every-time doing an XML round trip. It may be a bug as it seems to respect all other parameters.

    Thank you for the responses

    Worked fine for me yesterday. I created a title template with right-jusitifed text. Added that title to an FCPX project and roundtripped via XML. It came back in right-justified.

    Thanks Wes, you are correct, I tested your scenario.

    However, I found out a few more details.

    If the generator has text built into the motion template and I don't edit it inside FCPX

    The alignment will survive round trip.

    However, If I leave the text blank in Motion (and populate in FCPX) or edit the text once inside FCPX the alignment will not survive round trip.

    Thanks again!!
