iTunes match and sonos accessing grayed out tracks will subscribing to match fix this?

Using the "on this iPhone" function with sonos results in many albums being grayed out and not accessible. Sonos says that music downloaded prior to 2009 requires the user to subscribe to itunes match in order to upload all music to the cloud and then re download it to my devices in order to access the music using the sonos system. Seems like a bit of a scam to subscribe to a system to access music I've already paid for.

Hi,

Music purchased from iTunes Store prior to 2009 has DRM and cannot be use with Sonos. You can still play this music with iTunes but if you want to use Sonos you will need to upgrade those tracks You will need an iTunes Match subscription About iTunes Plus - Apple Support.
