Q: Costco credit card dropping Apple Pay - Citibank Business

On June 20, Costco is changing credit cards from Amex to Citibank. If you have Costco business membership, you must have a business card. This was fine with Amex since business cards support Apple Pay. Citibank on the other hand does not allow any business credit card to work with Apple Pay and after several weeks of calls, I find they have no plans to fix it. After 3 weeks of calls to Costco and Citbank here is the deal: if you have a Costco business credit card you must cancel the new card when it arrives, go to Costco cancel your membership, and sign up for a NEW personal membership, then APPLY for a new personal Citi card!

Anyone affected by this should call both Costco and Citi (use the Costco 800 # to get to Citi) and let them know they should:

1. Citi should support Apple Pay for all cards. But for now:

2. Citi should allow you to apply for a personal card even if you have a business Costco membership.

Also: Amex personal and business cards support Apple Pay notifications. Purchases show up on the iPhone and watch seconds after made. Citibank does not support notifications and from what I heard don't know what they are!

This is ridicules, that Costco and CITI has change the CC without Apple Pay option. What's the reasoning behind it, why is such a big deal for them to set it up?

I may just drop this card and start using other VISA CC that supports Apple Pay.

rm, I assume you have a business card right? I am hoping this does not apply to all Costco Citi cards!

Yes, it's business CC. Since Costco is accepting VISA CC now, I may just apply for CITI Double Cash CC.

Actually, if you go on citi.com and select cash back CC and select compare, both Double Cash and Costco Business CC - under other benefits it says: "Works with Apple Pay"! I wonder if activation of Apple Pay is just delayed for today, since so many people are doing it?

I have called CITI and they ASSURED me that my business card WILL work with Apple Pay. You have to call 1-855-375-7048 to have them activate it. Now, I'm told, I have to wait 24 hours for the Apple Pay system to catch up since it's so busy today. We'll see if they're telling the truth tomorrow.

Steve, PLEASE DO let us know. I have been in contact with the Costco and Citi people who worked with me and they are told Citi is looking into Apple Pay for business cards. The Citi team at Costco (there since Wed and will be there though this Wed) had a Citi "director" on site and he said the same thing, looking into it.

I spent over 1h on the phone with support; at the end they told me that Business CC is not currently supported for Apple Pay. I told them that they are posting misleading information then, because on citi.com 'compare CC' shows "Works with Apple Pay" under other benefits, and I'll more then happy to contact San Francisco consumer legal offices to have them look into CITI advertising practecing. I wander if that have changed their mind.

    Will check tomorrow though.

Thanks for the info. Would be nice if Citi would own up to this problem ahead of time or even now. I'll keep the card so I don't lose my rewards, but don't plan on using it. Not a happy customer so far.

I'm also VERY disappointed. I have a friend that works at Costco. He's been telling me how much better the the new card was going to be. I was actually hoping I'd be able to use apple pay at Costco. The last thing I expected was to actually loose functionality.

I'm considering just dropping the card all together. At least with AMX I could use it with Apple Pay at other retailers as well as the card at Costco. At this moment besides the discounts for gas, I see no reason to use it over other CC, and without apple pay it seems even less than my other cards!!!

    Very disappointed Costco.. Citibank...

SUPER DISAPPOINTED!!!  I was pretty excited to have a CC that would work pretty much everywhere.  Didn't even think that it wouldn't work with Apple Pay.  If they don't get it worked out I will likely switch to some other rewards card as my main card.  That's $50k + charges every year CITI will be kissing goodbye.

I spent an hour on the phone too.  Got thru to very pleasant rep. who THOUGHT she TOO could activate Apple Pay on my BUSINESS Citi VISA.

She could NOT do so, asked me to hold the line as "a manager is right next to me"... came right back and said "No, business accounts will NOT be able to activate Apple Play.'

I have TWO businesses with CostCo cards, Apple Pay is essential for another reason; ONLY ONE CARD/ACCOUNT can be live on the Citi Mobile App.

So, without Apple Pay, we have access to only ONE of our corporate accounts from our phone(s.) AND can no longer get real-time notifications when our cards are used by staff.

With the transition from AMEX we've lost the best customer service experience, AMEX rewards (we ran 100k of oil a year through one card) and ended up with this?!

Now after talking to a CITI supervisor, I'm told that Apple Pay WILL NOT work with the Costco Business cards. Time to file some MAJOR complaints with Costco. I have to reapply for a personal card to get Apple Pay functionality.  THIS IS ********!
