Q: Repairing disk permissions in El Capitain

I am running 10.11.4 El Capitain and was wondering how to repair disk permissions. Was able to do it in Mavericks, but El Capitain has seemed to have dismissed the need (?) for it.

Any help you can give is fantastic. Here is a shot of Disk Utilities:

Run the First Aid function. Aside from that, you can't.

Correct, in El Capitan there is no longer a need to repair disk permissions.

    Niel and Rysz,

Thanks to both of you. Rysc, what will running First Aid Function do that Niel talks about? Otherwise, I understand there is no need to do anything. Any reason why there is no longer a need? I'm just curious.

    Thanks!

. Any reason why there is no longer a need? I'm just curious.

Permissions repair was always about just checking permissions on some of the Apple files that are part of system installation. Apple changed the way these files are protected, so there is no longer a need for users to initiate repairs.

El Capitan Disk Utility Repair Disk Permissions Removed, What now

ISSUE – Apple has removed the Repair Disk Permissions in el Capitan and above. What do we do now to verify/repair Disk Permissions? (Not the same as Verify and Repair a Disk)

RESOLUTION – For a long time Verify and Repair Disk Permissions was used as a “Cure All” for all sorts of issues. I am just as guilty as anyone about doing this. Apple finally decided to remove that option from Disk Utility, since Apple considered this some form of HocusPocus, with little benefit in most situations.  The article below does have a Command Line process for those times when it may be necessary to verify/repair permissions. Do not confuse this with verifying and repairing Disks. Similar, yet different operations.
