My video can't be shared because "it is still referencing to media on the camera." ????

I'm editing a video on iMovie while my phone with the footage is connected to my laptop. The media only shows up when my phone is connected, and I can't seem to upload and save the footage without it being connected to my laptop at all times. There's no option for me to reupload the videos or anything... What do I do?

Open the import window in iMovie and you should see the iPhone on the left under camera. Select the video in the window and import to a new or existing event. If this doesn't work use image capture and save the video to a folder on your desktop and import from the folder into iMovie.
