Q: Can I upgrade to El Capitan from OS X version 10.9.5 ?

I'm currently using OS X version 10.9.5 and thought I'd upgrade to El Capitan to see if my system would run better. I have 4 gigs of memory and about 275 gigs of available storage from installed base of over 400. I use a mid-2010 Macbook Pro.

Thanks for the help! I was unsure whether I could make the leap from Mavericks to El Capitan. Crossing my fingers that it'll be a smooth transition.
