when i plug my iphone 6 into my laptop it makes the sound to say its connected but nothing comes up

When I plug my Iphone 6 into my laptop, it makes the noise to say it is connected, but nothing comes up on my laptop and my battery logo doesn't go green to say its charging. I found a video on Facebook which told me to go onto my control panel and then to go hardware and sounds then click onto devises and printers then my Iphone comes up under unspecified, the video goes on to tell you to right click on the logo and troubleshoot it and it should work I've done this countless amount of times and it keeps coming up with saying it cannot do it. Someone please help me?

Make sure your computer is running the latest version of iTunes.

Mac

  1. Open iTunes.
  2. From the menu bar at the top of your computer screen, choose iTunes > Check for Updates.
  3. Follow the prompts to install the latest version.

Windows

  1. Open iTunes.
  2. If the menu bar isn't showing, hold down the Control and B keys to show it. Learn more about the iTunes for Windows menu bar.
  3. From the menu bar, choose Help > Check for Updates.
  4. Follow the prompts to install the latest version.

See these steps by fellow user turingtest2 for dealing with driver issues and Windows.

Try the following:

  1. Open Control Panel > Device Manager
  2. Plug in your device
  3. Locate Universal Serial Bus Controllers > Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.
It is also possible the device may show under Imaging Devices, Portable Devices or Other Devices or as an MTB USB Device.
  4. Right-click and select Update Driver Software...
  5. Click Browse my computer for driver software
  6. Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers or
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
  7. Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
  8. Click Apple Mobile Device USB Driver
  9. Click Next, then Close and exit Device Manager

Or try iPhone, iPad, or iPod not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support

Failing that try a full tear down and rebuild of iTunes as set out in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
