After a HD crash, I need to reinstall the OS on my G4 Power Book. Where can I get an installer disk with OS 10.4 ? I don't have the original Apple disk set anymore.

I tried to install from a set of Apple CDs with OS 10.4.2 for G4 which I got from a colleague. To my surprise, the installation failed with the message : "the system cannot be installed on this computer". Any explanations ?
If the installation disc (grey in color) came with a particular Mac model that is not your Mac model, it usually does not work.
Also, if you are using a retail disc, there are other considerations. By "retail," I mean a disc that was sold separately (in a shrink-wrapped box) for all supported Mac models. Find your PowerBook G4 model on this list

On the profile page, find the Pre-Installed MacOS. The version of Mac OS X on the installation disc needs to be later (up to hardware limits), not earlier.
