latest OS version for Macbook Pro 7,1

Dear users: My MackBook Pro 7,1 (Intel Core 2 Duo, 2,4 GHz, 4 GB RAM) runs with OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard, thus, I cannot upgrade Java to its newer version 1.7 or 1,8. This limits the compatibility with bank account access and income tax return software in Brazil.

Should or could I upgrade to newer OS version, as 10.7 ?

Your mac can handle the latest OSX.

In 10.6.8 you have the Appstore in the Applications folder. There you can download OSX.

ElCapitan is very different than SnowLeopard: and it will not run any rosetta apps anymore. Also a lot of older softwares that are on your mac now may not have an ElCapitan update anymore.

Software compatibility can be checked here: roaringapps.com

Hi Luis:

You can either upgrade straight to OS X 10.11.4 http://www.apple.com/ca/osx/how-to-upgrade/

or you can still get OS X Lion 10.7 on App Store http://www.apple.com/ca/shop/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion

or you can get OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 http://www.apple.com/ca/shop/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion

If you want to upgrade to OS X 10.11.4, the upgrade is free.

If you have previously downloaded either Lion or Mountain Lion then they will be under your purchased apps in App Store.

If you want to purchase Lion or Mountain Lion you can order it from the above link and you will get a code which will allow you to download it from the App Store.
