Q: Battery drain issue

i have the latest software on my iPhone/watch. Lately my watch started behaving really weird, the battery drains in 11 hours completely, even though the watch are not used. If u check the usage in Apple Watch app, it would tell me that almost all of the time the watch were used.

after re-pairing/restoring watch the battery works just fine (>2 days in standby), until I set up watch faces/ install the apps etc (battery again goes under 9-10 hours).

AS long as I re-pair/restore watch they work just fine but I cant be doing that all the time. Is there any way to fix this issue until the next watchOS version comes out ? I don't have any fitness apps on them, and yes i tried restarting devices 1 million times.

Apple Watch, watchOS 2.2

    Hi

It may help to identify the cause if you initially remove all third-party apps from your watch and then monitor battery performance after adding them back, one by one.

The same applies in respect of watch face complications.

How many apps are you installing? Are you installing them all at once? Have you attempted to install just a couple at a time and test. Sounds almost like one of the apps is causing the problem. I've got an Apple Watch with WatchOS 2.2 and am experiencing excellent battery life. It will last me all day 0700-2300 hours, with medium usage, and still have more than 50% battery at the end of the day. It is paired with an iPhone 6s on iOS 9.3.1.

When I remove all the apps, it doesn't work. The issue is fixed only after unpairing the watch. Also, yesterday all of a sudden the battery was performing just right. But then, when they were at 20% I charged them again and after full-charge the battery started draining again.

I Don't have much apps, like 4 or 5 third parties like viber/telegram/Twitter and a few more.

Will unpair again and isntall apps/watch faces one by one. it's quite annoying and probably will take some time

You say you only have 4-5 apps, how is that so difficult. You also mention watch faces. What are you installing as far as watch faces? Have you created a number of different watch faces? I'm a little confused by what you are saying here.

I have a similar issue, since I installed iOs 9.3.1 my apple watch battery started discharging rapidly. Apple also could not diagnose the watch so sent it to the repair center and next day I do a replacement for no cost. Same problem, the battery still drains very fast. I even paired another apple watch, the same problem with that watch. So it seems that there is something with the iOs 9.3.1 as my phones are also discharging much quicker.

Unpaired and repaired the watch as a new watch but the same problem. Charge it overnight, the battery is empty by 1 pm (beginning at 730 am).

    Cant figure out the issue.

Im not doing anything special about watch faces, just changing color and all the things normal users would do. I  have custom watch faces, but they are not even Live Photos. Just normal ones.

I have 4-5 apps but i cant figure out so far which one is draining the battery if the issue is in the apps at all i.e. I have all of them installed one day and everything works smoothly, but after next full charge the issue with draining comes up.

      due to my job my

phone is Almost always  in airplane mode with wi-if/bluetooth on But I don't think thats the issue either

I suggest you do as Jonathan recommended and add the apps back one at a time to help determine which one is causing you the problems.

There is not anything wrong with iOS or the WatchOS on my devices. If you are experiencing battery drain on both devices, you need to troubleshoot each separately to determine the issues. For the iPhone, go to Settings>Battery and see what app is using the highest percentage of your battery. This will help try and determine your issue there. For the watch, you need to follow Jonathan's recommendation for the repairing of the watch and adding back individual apps to test to see if you can discover which one is causing the issue. If you are restoring the watch from a backup, it could be introducing the problem again by copying over from the backup.

I am linking it to another phone and will post if that will resolve the problem. I will also try what Jonathan suggested. Thank you.

You are more than welcome. Believe me, Johnathan is the resident expert user when it comes to the Apple Watch. He knows what he is talking about.

    Jonathan,

Is there any way I can do a diagnostic on the watch, even with switching and repairing it with a new phone the watch battery is draining. In two hours it came down from 95 percent to 70 percent. I paired it while it was charging so this is true loss. I am using an Iphone 6 with 9.3.1. and Watch 2.2, before it was on iphone 6s Plus with 9.3.1 and watch 2.2. I paired a second watch and that one also started draining.

Under earlier versions of iOS and watchOS, some users reportedly experienced battery life issues in connection with using corporate profiles and/or Exchange Calendars. If you are using an Exchange Calendar, one or more of these steps may help:

    • Archive your Exchange Calendar for all items before today.
    • Remove / delete all old inbox messages relating to calendar invites (accept and decline notifications).
    • Create a rule in your Outlook Mail account that moves all future accept and decline replies - immediately upon receipt - into a separate mail folder that does not sync with your iPhone and Apple Watch.
    • Check your Exchange Calendar for errors.

i unpaired and restored Apple Watch and went to sleep for 8 hours. Before I was goon off they were at 77%. When I woke up they were at 69%. I think it's still too much, right ?

Battery life varies by use, configuration and many other factors. However, those figures do not seem excessive, given that your devices were operating for 8 hours.

You may find it most convenient to charge your watch overnight. Charging will stop automatically when the watch is fully charged and start again if and when required due to ongoing battery usage. Follow Apple's safety and handling instructions when charging.
