To be more specific, you need iTunes 12.3 or later, and that requires Windows 7 or later.

Apr 28, 2016 4:56 PM in response to Rcwhitlowby Lawrence Finch,When you download iTunes it downloads the current version for the version of Windows or Mac OS X that is on your computer. If it isn't Windows 7 or later that "latest version" is not iTunes 12.3. So this comes back to the question: Does your computer have Windows 7 or later?

Apr 29, 2016 3:40 PM in response to Rcwhitlowby elcpu,You may have to delete/update the Apple Mobile Device Driver. Try the steps here. While this article is for Windows 10, the steps are analogous for Windows 7.
