What is the version of iTunes on your machine? You should install the latest version in order to recognise 6s device.
I do have the latest updates from apple and microsoft.

To be more specific, you need iTunes 12.3 or later, and that requires Windows 7 or later.
Lawrence, I downloaded the current itunes from apple yesterday.
When you download iTunes it downloads the current version for the version of Windows or Mac OS X that is on your computer. If it isn't Windows 7 or later that "latest version" is not iTunes 12.3. So this comes back to the question: Does your computer have Windows 7 or later?
I have windows 7 64bit. I worked fine a week ago in the current configuration.
I have done all of that. No change.
You may have to delete/update the Apple Mobile Device Driver. Try the steps here. While this article is for Windows 10, the steps are analogous for Windows 7.

Thanks elcpu. That technipages.com article worked perfectly. Note I'm running Windows 10.
My pleasure, glad that it worked.
