I understand that these are not backed up (although find it very frustrating that this is not done!) but can anyone please advise, without suggesting I purchase software to do this, if an Apple store can download these off one iphone and then transfer them to another iphone?

Please show me a where you found out this information of message not being backed up.
IPhone imessage/text and MMS has always been part of the icloud and iTunes backup.

I have message on my current phone that date back to my iPhone 4. They get transfer, via back up, every time I get a new phone.
