where did my non iTunes music go

i downloaded the latest update 10.9.5 on my macbook pro....now i open iTunes and my 10,000+ songs are GONE. All that are saved are the songs i have recently purchased from iTunes...i have had music since 1996 on my computer (non iTunes) including some youtube to mp3 songs and music from CDs....that is ALL GONE...I need help! Please!

If you're fretting this much it is because you don't maintain backups and when your drive dies (and it will some day) your files really will be gone.
