Q: Cannot Add Card because of "Card Device Limit"

My bank finally turned on Apple Pay this morning, I have added my Visa card successfully, but I can't add my American Express card. Initially, I was able to add the AMEX card to my phone, but when I added it to the watch I got "Card Device Limit - This card cannot be added until it is removed from one of the other devices that is using it". When I tried deleting the card from my phone and starting the process again, I get the same error adding to my phone. This card registered with my apple ID, but its only being used on 4 devices. Why can't I add this card?

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.1

    Hi

If the card is a bank-issued American Express card, contact your bank for assistance, including to check whether that card is supported for Apple Pay.

If the card is issued directly by American Express, contact them for assistance, including asking them to check for any issues at their end.

Totally agree with Jonathan. Apple suggests contacting your bank as mentioned at the bottom of this support article >  Get help adding cards to Apple Pay - Apple Support

You can also check Apple Pay System Status anytime here >  https://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/

    Hi ,

I cannot get the exact same issue resolved.  I am a Plat. Amex holder (quite exp but after this....?)  I have been calling AMEX for over 5 weeks, have been told that the department that addresses this is not open on the weekends (wait...this is American Express right?) and even after escalating to a SR. MGR at Amex could only be told after providing the SEID (Secure Element ID Number.)number of the device in question was told again that the AMEX Apple Pay department would look into it. Do not have this issue with any other financial institution!

    Please help!

You should address this question and issue to AMEX.  No one here can help you.  It is unique to your card issuer.

    Hi there,

Yes thanks for the reply - please note that in my original post I clearly stated I have called AMEX for the past five weeks.  Any updates or help from community is much appreciated .  I have done loads of searches and it seems that only AMEX has this issue.
