I know this question as already been talked about, but I didn't find any way to fix it.
For a few weeks, my MacPro sees ProRes files seen as APCS files. If you open it with Quicktime X, it will convert it. VLC will play it fine, but it will display APCS under codec information. The APCS files are usable, since they are ProRes files misinterpreted.
What's going on and how to fix it ?

Thank you so much! Very glad to know about FourCC. Never heard of it before can't understand why.
So.
- If I send a video files seen on my Mac as a APCS, my client would see it as a ProResLT on his mac, right ?
- How to tell my mac to see it as ProRes again ?

Yes, although it may depend on what app is used to open it. QuickTime will report it as Pro Res LT.
As you can see from the following screenshots that VideoSpec reports it as Pro Res LT but MediaInfo says the same file is apcs
