I purchased a song from the iTunes store and then synced it to my iPod. Now I'm trying to listen to my iPod away from home and that song says it requires wifi in order to play.
I've never come across this before.

Ok. I see where I may have went wrong. It was downloaded from my Purchased playlist and I purchased it from a different computer.
Is there a way I can fix it?
The computer shouldn't matter, but the account might. Perhaps it is trying to authorize the account. Occasionally corrupt purchases show authorization problems. When you do have access to Wi-Fi perhaps you should delete the track without hiding from the cloud and then redownload it from your purchase history.
