How do I mount a disk image (iso, dmg) so that my macbook thinks its a physical disk?

I have some rosetta stone language packs saved on my drive that I would like to install onto the Rosetta Stone program, but it requires that I insert a disk into the drive for it to recognize it. I have tried mounting the disk image files I have created using Disk utility, but when they mount, they always do so as External Physical Volumes, and not as a Disk that I insert into the drive. I have tried using both Toast Titanium, Terminal, and Disk Utility to mount the dmg, cdr, and iso, files I have created using Disk Utility, but none of them work. I have also ried burning the files to a DVD, but the drive is unable to write the disk, as I keep getting an error: "Error burning disk image: The disc can't be burned; it might be incompatible with this disc drive. Please try a different brand of disc, or try burning at a slower speed.". Is there something else I can do. I am using a Macbook pro 13" 2010, with El Capitan.

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

Disk images normally mount as virtual disks, I don't see what you are doing wrong. Simply mounting the disk image should allow you to access the content inside the image. From there you should be able to run the installer or drag files from it etc.

Disk Utility can create a disk image from any mounted disk via 'File > New > Disk image from folder…' That should be sufficient to make a copy of most normal disks. I suspect you are falling foul of copyright protection on the original disks, which may mean your copies are incomplete. I'd strongly suggest you find the original disks (or purchase them) to install from.

Software makers often prevent you from copying original disks - in which case read the terms of the software. Contact them for replacements if you own a licence for damaged disks.

Consumer grade CD/DVD burners cannot burn disks that are created at manufacturing plants, the formatting is slightly different & your ripped copies seem to be incomplete. It really depends on your source disks.

I am unaware of any difference between a mounted floppy disk, an external volume, or a mounted disk image, in terms of how the Finder represents them.

What is not happening that you expect to happen, or what happens that you do not expect to happen? If the Rosetta Stone app is coded to only expect actual floppy disks, then I'm surprised it still works on El Capitan. Perhaps you should ask the people who make Rosetta Stone what to do.
