Volume randomly turns off and on

So I own a 2009 macbook pro. Laptop is still in pretty good condition, no falls, no dents.

Recently when I've been listening to my music or watching youtube videos, the volume will just go mute along with the video pausing, it will be just for a couple seconds and then it will go back. Weird thing is, I could be listening to music or watching a youtube video for hours and then suddenly it will happen.

Oh yeah, I just upgraded to El capitain 10.11.3 about 2 months ago, but the problem has only been happening in the last 2 weeks.

Thanks

Kev
