HP remote access and malware?

Yesterday I called HP as I was having trouble with my printer. After being transferred a couple of times I was put through to a technician who ended up calling me back due to a bad line.

He connected remotely to my computer through www.hp.com but ever since I've felt worried that I shouldn't have done this.

He was unable to solve my problem as he said I was using a Mac OS 10.8 and didn't have Windows. Suggested I call back when I had access to s computer with Windows.

Should I be concerned that he has put some kind of spyware or malware on my computer? He had access for maybe 10 minutes or so.

I deleted the HP remote access app immediately and shutdown the computer.

I have googled HP and haven't found anything that may suggest it's s scam. Just don't like feeling vulnerable.

Why would someone from a reputable company like Hewlett-Packard put spyware or malware on your computer?

Are you sure you called HP and not one of the fake tech-support scams that infest the search engines? If you searched the Web for something like "HP support," it was probably a scam.

I called HP main line and was transferred to a specialist printer technician after the main operator couldn't help.

The "specialist printer technician" is incompetent. I doubt that he's intelligent enough to have sabotaged your computer, even if he wanted to, but if you're concerned, you should restore the startup volume from the last backup you made before the episode. Never again allow anyone remote access to your computer for any reason.
