So my boyfriend will hit the trackpad super hard when he clicks on things and now my trackpad feels like it isn't as sensitive as it used to be. I've been having issues with my right click and my scrolling. Is it broken or is there a way to fix this?

In addition to the other advice ...
If you are using ElCapitan or higher, buy him a Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad 2. He can beat those up and you can replace them later for less money. The newest version of the wireless keyboard and wireless trackpad are designed for ElCapitan, not for Yosemite or lower.
