Thunderbolt audio cuts out

I have been dealing with apple support for almost a year on the issue!


When playing audio through the Thunderbolt display the audio will gradually turn into static and progressivly start cutting out until I almost cant hear anything at all. The only way to fix it is to change the audio device to the internal speakers and then back, but the issue eventually returns.


I know I've seen other with the same issue. Anyone get it resolved. Apple support is clueless and helpless.
