Q: Why is does it say that my Iphone is a replacement

I purchased a used Iphone for my girlfriend last christmas. I met the guy at his house he was around 50 yrs old look very legit with his kids and everything. He told me that he had it for one year and wanted the 6S plus and that he bought the Apple Care Plus, which I verified (there was a year left of warranty on it). But, yesterday, I checked back just to remember the exact date and now it says that my Iphone is a replacement and that I should contact Apple. The problem is that when I bought it from the guy, we went (both of us, togheter) to the Apple store in Laval, Qc, and ask the employe if I could transfer the ownership of the warranty and he had no idea what I was talking about so he told me to call Apple. We did, togheter, called Apple directly in the Apple store. The girl at the Apple support told me that we didnt need to transfer the Apple Care Plus warranty because it is linked to the phone serial number, and not the owner of the phone. She said that she had never done that before and it was unusual that someone ask to transfer the ownership, but we talked to her for about an hour to finally hear that her system wasn't working well this day so she couldn't made it. She said that she would get a note on the profile and make it when it becomes available. I really don't understand now why I have this message it feels like the guy that sell me the phone called a replacement but never send it back cause he sold me that replacement but how is that even possible??? I mean I have is name/adress I could report him it's like a fraud to do things like that!!

Replacement phone merely means that someone got it if their original phone was not working for some reason - could be anything - water damage, software or hardware issues or whatever

There are some senior posters who actually consider a replacement phone as good as if not better than a new one given the rigorous extra testing that Apple puts them through

If you have the AppleCare+ it would seem all above board and legit

Particularly if the phone is working well

The advice would be to continue to use it - in all practical ways possible it is indistinguishable from the one bought new - ultimately it is your call

You can wait to see what other advice you receive from my fellow posters and then decide

Well first, thank you for your answer.

Then, I think I maybe didnt well explain my problem. When I go to the AppleCare plus Check at : https://checkcoverage.apple.com/ca/en/ and that I enter my SN it says (IN RED) that my phone is a replacement and that the SN is wrong cause (I don't really understand). It says that if what they say is wrong then that I should contact them. Then re-read my first post for the history part and you'll understand the actual problem. Thank!!

Acutal message : We're sorry, but this is a serial number for a product that has been replaced. Please check your information and re-enter your serial number. If your information is correct, you may need to contact us.

The person who sold the phone to you to may have had it replaced, and then failed to return it to Apple

But is that possible that he called a replacement after he sold me the phone, received the new phone but never send mine (cause he sold it to me) ? Then he got the 700$ I gave him and a new phone? Is it really possible? Because I could give his name, adress and all the emails we exchange before the transaction to Apple Support!

That certainly changes things - I would at least talk to the person who sold you the phone and get their side of the story

I thought for some reason that the Apple Care had checked out!

Apple support is probably ok to call but if you do not get a satisfactory answer from the person - I would consider going to the authorities

But again just before I bought it when I was at his home I checked his serial number in ( General > Information > SN ) with the Apple Care Plus Check and it was ok there was replacement left and all.... So anyway even if he replaced it once, Apple Care Plus give 2 replacements so there shold be one left! So if he did that it is a fraud there's no doubt about that!
