Fairly new to logic here, just trying to record some simple layered midi tracks. Unfortunately, when I create a new midi track to layer with my initial track, it automatically creates an "alias" track over my first take, deleting what was previously recording. How can I stop this from happening? I've attached a photo of what's happening below (the yellow portion is the alias).

You have both tracks Record-Enabled.
When you have this state, you will record a MIDI region on one track (the one that is highlighted in the track list) and an Alias region on the other.

When I try to disable to recording button on the first track created, it won't turn off.
I've created multiple tracks under that one, all which can be disabled, but that first one won't. Is there a setting to change this?

Odd behaviour... all works correctly here.
How about making a duplicate of the first track, copying the existing regions then deleting the original?
